Project Momentum

Raising Expectations. Supporting Growth. Advancing Student Success.
Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District is proud to implement Project Momentum, a statewide school improvement initiative aimed at boosting student achievement, strengthening instruction, and ensuring every learner reaches their full academic potential.
Project Momentum is rooted in the belief that with focused teaching, purposeful collaboration, and data-informed decisions, students can exceed expectations and make measurable academic gains. The initiative emphasizes accelerated growth, particularly in English Language Arts and Mathematics, with the goal of helping COCSD students make greater than average progress compared to their peers statewide.
What This Means for Our Schools:
Increased Focus on Core Instruction: Teachers are supported in refining lessons aligned to Arizona State Standards, using proven instructional strategies to improve outcomes.
Data-Informed Decision-Making: Schools use formative assessments and collaborative review of student data to guide instruction and respond quickly to learning needs.
Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): Grade-level and content-area teams meet regularly to analyze assessments, adjust instruction, and align to priority standards.
Student-Centered Supports: Interventions are tailored based on what students need most—whether through small groups, academic coaching, or targeted review.
Family and Community Engagement: Project Momentum encourages strong partnerships with families and the community to support learning at every level.
Why It Matters:
Academic momentum builds when students experience success, grow their confidence, and develop the skills needed for long-term success in school and beyond. Project Momentum is our commitment to providing every student with the instruction, support, and opportunity they need to thrive.
Together, we are creating steady academic momentum that benefits every learner, every classroom, and every school.
